Perhaps it was her humble beginning that carries the fashion house’s premise of simplistic magnificence. One of my favourite movies is ‘Coco before Chanel’ which is an adaptation of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s life. After watching the movie, did I see the depth in the clothing. She took her pain and produced masterpieces from it. She’s synonymous with the layering of pearls, the tweed jacket and of course giving birth to the little black dress that we still adore today. Coco Chanel was always an original and forward thinker; she was tired of seeing women dress for men and she revolutionised fashion history with her philosophy.
The fashion house stems from 1910 and is still a major player in today’s society. Functionality and comfort are still key with ever-changing market and still it finds time to be modern and oh so now, always. So since I decided to dedicate an entire piece to possibly the greatest designer of all time, I had to show you’ll one of my favorite style icons. Blake Lively being the perfect new face of Chanel and honestly I couldn’t be happier with their choice. Both the brand and her is so effortless.
I can see why Karl Lagerfeld is still chief designer after so many years. Blue was a constant theme at the Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2012 fashion show this year. Choosing an ever original runway (mock airplane with seats and all) and simple made faces matched with dramatic yet impressive hair created the perfect balance. Plane chic.
As you should know by now, I try and do atleast one designer piece a week. Since its the my birthday this week, why not do it on my ultimate favourite designer. I wish Chanel would open a store in South Africa. Yes it’s a luxury brand, but I think its message of minimalistic style will defiantly change the way South African women view fashion and themselves. So remember ladies, “Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.” – Coco Chanel
